The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Gavin Stone from Triple-A Oklahoma City and designated Wander Suero for assignment prior to Monday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.

Stone starts the series opener at Truist Park for his second career outing with the Dodgers. He’s needed in the rotation due to Dustin May suffering a right flexor pronator strain that is expected to keep him out for at least one month.

Stone returns to the Dodgers roster after collecting 10 strikeouts over 5.2 innings, both of which were season highs, in a start for OKC on May 16.

The right-hander 2-2 with a 4.04 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in eight starts at the Triple-A level this year. Stone’s ERA is inflated due to allowing six runs in just 2.2 innings pitched in his 2023 debut.

He’s held opponents to three runs or fewer in every start with OKC since then.

Stone faces a difficult challenge in starting against the Braves on the road, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes he and fellow prospect Bobby Miller have a good opportunity ahead of them, even if it’s coming under unexpected circumstances.

Wander Suero’s brief stint with Dodgers

Suero is DFA’d after making four appearances over two separate stints with the Dodgers. He first was called up May 5 as a corresponding move to Stone getting optioned after his MLB debut, and Suero returned to the roster over the weekend when Julio Urías was placed on the 15-day injured list because of a left hamstring strain.

Suero struggled in his Dodgers debut, walking three batters in a loss to the San Diego Padres. The veteran reliever reduced his walks in three ensuing appearances, but allowed three runs on Sunday to the St. Louis Cardinals.
