Retired NFL legend points out his striking resemblance to Knicks big man

J.J. Watt posted on social media on Monday night, agreeing with one NBA fan's assessment of the retired defensive end's striking resemblance to New York Knicks big man Isaiah Hartenstein.

Watt pointed out one caveat, though: Hartenstein really looks like an NBA2k create-a-player version of himself that is a bit slimmer than the three-time AP Defensive Player of the Year.

The 25-year-old Hartenstein is listed at 7 feet and 250 pounds.

Watt — who has worked as a studio analyst for "The NFL Today" since his retirement following the 2022 season — was listed at 6-foot-5 and 288 pounds when he hung up his cleats.

Interestingly, both men were selected by their respective league's Houston franchises in the NBA and NFL Drafts and started their careers in H-town.

The Texans chose Watt as the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, and the Wisconsin product became one of the best defenders in NFL history.

He spent the first 10 seasons of his career in Houston, earning five First-Team All-Pro honors and making five Pro Bowls. Watt led the league in tackles for loss three times, sacks twice and is second all-time in the former category with 195, trailing only Baltimore Ravens legend Terrell Suggs.

Watt also gained a reputation over the years as one of the sport's good guys and won the 2017 Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

The Rockets selected Hartenstein in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft, and he spent his first two years with the team, playing in just 51 games and receiving 9.1 minutes per contest.

He split the 2020-21 campaign between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Denver Nuggets but made minimal impact in his 46 contests, recording 12.1 minutes per game.

Hartenstein signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in September 2021 and saw an uptick in playing time during his one season in the City of Angels before joining the Knicks in July 2022.

After playing all 82 games (eight starts) with New York last season, Hartenstein had his best campaign in 2023-24.

Not only did he play 75 games (including a career-high 49 starts), but he posted high marks in rebounds (8.3), assists (2.5), steals (1.2) and minutes per contest (25.3) as well.

Hartenstein also shot an elite 64.4% from the floor and finished second in the NBA in offensive rating (136.2), fifth in offensive rebounds (244) and fifth in defensive rating (108.1).

He may never earn the type of accolades that his doppelganger did, but he has been critical to the Knicks' success this season.
