The 2024 NHL Entry Draft will be here before we know it, so it’s time to start looking at who the Blue Jackets could pick with the fourth overall pick on Friday, June 28.
There’s a ton of hockey talent in Russia. Every year, there seems to be one Russian forward that gets scouts throughout the hockey world out of their seats exclaiming “Wow, that kid is good!” Last year, there was Matvei Michkov.
After the huge Matvei Michkov saga in 2023, we’re back with another dilemma surrounding a young Russian player: Ivan Demidov. If his name were Yvan Demidove and he were from Quebec, there would be fewer questions about him.
Recently, there’s been a lot of talk in Montreal about Ivan Demidov. He’s seen by many as a logical top-three pick in the upcoming draft… But as my colleague Charles-Alexis Brisebois explained earlier today, there’s a good chance the Russian could slip to No.
Now that the draft lottery has come and gone and we know the draft order for the top-16 picks in the first round, as well as the winner of the first overall pick, I wanted to do a quick top-16 mock draft.
In a few weeks’ time, the Canadiens will have the fifth-highest draft slot. It’s the first time the club has drafted this high since… 2023, when David Reinbacher was selected fifth overall.
Ivan Demidov is one of the top prospects in the 2024 draft. He’s seen as an offensive player… And he’s been compared to Matvei Michkov, because they have a similar style.
The NHL Draft Lottery is here, and The Sporting News has updated its projections for the 2024 NHL Draft.
After the lottery, we’ll have a better idea of what’s in store for the Habs at the next draft. And that’s just as well… Because the lottery is tomorrow!
Like every year, the NHL amateur draft is the talk of the town, especially when the Montreal Canadiens draft in the top-5, as has been the case in the last two years.
The more time passes, the more we talk about the draft. After all, in Montreal, that’s what you have to watch out for. Yesterday, Arpon Basu revealed that the Habs love Ivan Demidov, and that the Habs could move up, if need be, to draft him.
On Tuesday, May 7, we’ll find out where the Canadiens will be drafted next month. #Lottery #Draft Of course, in an ideal world for team executives, the hockey gods would reward the Habs with the chance to draft Macklin Celebrini.
If the Montreal Canadiens are indeed aiming to be in the playoff mix for next season, they have quite the summer ahead of them. It may have been another 28th-place finish for the Canadiens this season, but the progress was notable; giving general manager Kent Hughes the necessary data he needs to make some big changes.
With the Canadiens out of the current NHL playoffs, the focus in Montreal is increasingly on the draft. Yesterday, the NHL confirmed that the draft lottery will take place on May 7.
